Grieving metro Detroit families receive massive Christmas surprise
(WXYZ) — A local nonprofit its doing its part to help ease the pain for children who have just lost parents.
On Sunday, Yatooma’s Foundation For The Kids surprised three families with dozens of gifts. It gave each family a huge box, overflowing with 40 to 50 gifts.
The first family to receive a surprise was a grandmother and her three grandchildren, aged 4, 7 and 9, who lost their mother to a recently diagnosed heart condition. The second family was a grandmother of five girls all under the age of 10. The girls lost both of their parents and witnessed the death of their mother and father just months apart from each other.
The third family was an aunt who cares for nine children, ages 4 to 19. Five of the children lost their mother when she was stabbed 15 times. The aunt caring for them also has a child of her own and cares for her other sister’s three young children.
“Although we will never be able to bring back Mom or Dad, we can still give these kids a memory that will live on, which will include Santa and dozens of elves showing up to their homes with gifts, holiday cheer, and most importantly, support,” the nonprofit said in a press release.
The presents included everything from big screen TVs to computers and warm winter gear.
